What Is a Superbill?

If you’re looking for service that is out of network with your insurance, you may have heard the term “superbill”. A superbill is a simple document that shows the services you received and the amount you paid. You can submit it to your insurance company to see if your plan will reimburse you for part of the cost.

How Does It Work?

When you see an out-of-network provider, you typically pay for your session directly. Your provider can then provide you with a superbill, which you submit to your insurance company.

Your insurance company will review the superbill and determine whether you are eligible for reimbursement based on your specific plan.

Will My Insurance Reimburse Me?

It depends on your insurance plan. Some plans offer out-of-network benefits, while others do not.

If you’re desiring to use your health insurance benefits for counseling, we recommend contacting your insurance company and asking:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • Is counseling covered under my plan?

  • What is my out of network deductible?

  • What percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?

  • Do I need to submit a superbill or claim form?

We’re Happy to Help

If your counseling services are out-of-network, we’re happy to provide a superbill upon request. While we cannot guarantee that your insurance will reimburse you, we can provide the documentation you need to submit to your insurance company.
